AN INFORMAL PERFORMANCE SERIES
FOR THE WILD was created as a way to raise awareness of our current climate crisis, to fundraise money for The Canadian Parks + Wilderness Society, to offer a space for freedom of expression and deepen our connection to nature.
FOR THE WILD will be held again in the future. If you are interested in participating in this performance series or have information about an environmental cause you would like to contribute to please contact [email protected]

MOTIVATION FOR EVENT
I was raised by my family to respect the wilderness, play in the dirt, and listen to the trees. Their passion for our wildlife always inspired me. But as a child I did not fully grasp the real crisis our world was in. I have been feeling an urgency at the core of my being and it moves me deeply to witness others that resonate with the values I was taught growing up. I am inspired by those taking action to heal our planet. I had been growing more disheartened by the maltreatment to our home.
It can be bewildering to know what steps to take to contribute. I remember visiting a beach with my little nephew one day when he was around 5 years old. He saw the garbage filling up the shorelines and said with earnest conviction and tears in his eyes “this is terrible, we need to do something!” He then continued cleaning up the garbage on the beach each day we visited. His older brother will often share with me esoteric knowledge of different biospheres and connect with animals with tenderness and enthusiasm. They are constantly reminding me of the majesty of nature. That we need to relearn that WE ARE A PART OF NATURE, NOT SEPARATE FROM IT and that we must protect one another. We must act with urgency and courage. We must act now. They deserve a future. We all do.
I am often bombarded by the question “I am only one person...what can I do?” But then I am reminded by the strength of our universal family and the courage of our voices. We will all need to pick up the pieces together. I have been motivated by my family members, friends and others who continually seek to find liberation and protection for our wildlife. My wish is to continue learning from their wisdom and emulating a mission of care for all living things.
To quote the precocious and wise Greta Thunberg "You say you love your children above all else, and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes... We cannot solve a crisis without treating it as a crisis...if solutions within the system are so impossible to find, then... we should change the system itself."
We are all in this together. This is our home.

ABOUT The Canadian Parks + Wilderness Society (CPAWS).
British Columbia is celebrated across the country and around the world for it's natural beauty. When we think of the province that we call home, we might picture a pod of orcas hunting off the coast, a bird swooping over a rolling grassland, or a herd of caribou roaming a snow-covered mountain. But the reality is much dimmer. We are facing a global extinction crisis, one that is exacerbated by climate disruption and habit destruction. The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society BC Chapter is one of 13 chapters working across Canada to create more space for nature in attempt to save our biodiversity. Our mission is to protect natural land and ocean ecosystems in parks, wilderness and similar natural areas, preserving diverse habitats and the incredible fish, wildlife and plants that depend on them. We work to secure large, meaningful protected areas on land and water, areas that create homes for wildlife and nurse nature through climate change. We hope that you share our vision of a British Columbia that leads the global community by example, protecting nature and giving it a chance to thrive in a changing world.
